Linklettes * 13 - One link shall rule them all...
Changing the format here a little. Instead of a round-up, LINKLETTES is now a weekly web superlative in five categories:
The ONE: The best thing I've read all week.
The GAME: We suck sometimes. Let's get better.
The DEEP: Something profound that makes you feel feelings and what not.
The BEAUTY: Something that is fucking beautiful, obviously.
The SOUND: Best track of the week.
Brevity is my bitch. Ready go.
THE ONE:
Every feel like you're wading through a sludge pond full of soul-sucking eels or is that just me? If you're Gen-Y, chances are you've often wondered if there's a way to contribute meaningfully to the world and pay down your (motherfucking) student loans. Umair Haque wants us to reconsider the importance of purpose in our work: WANTING MEANINGFUL WORK IS NOT A FIRST WORLD PROBLEM. (via Harvard Business Review)
THE GAME:
My swoon-worthy writer friend, Chris Backley, has some thoughts on what to do after you experience your first taste of virality on the internet. This advice applies to most endeavors actually: WHAT ELSE YOU GOT?
THE DEEP:
As I watch and comment on the hipster sea I swim through each day, I think frequently about the state of my generation and the changing landscape of work & life unfolding in front of me. Having been to extremes in my own career(s?), I've fielded an equally extreme range of comments about my experience. This is a piece about making sure you're giving yourself the compassionate consideration you need in order to keep growin: ARE YOU TELLING THE RIGHT STORY OF YOUR LIFE? (via The Creativity Post)
THE BEAUTY:
Let me tell you something: I love naked people. I also dig creative marketing content. Here's a good combination of these interests from Wriggles & Robbins to advertise the life drawing courses at The Book Club in London, using photographed stills of the students’ work-in-progress. #stopmotion #nudity #hooray:
THE SOUND:
THE WHEEL: This is another single from the SOHN EP. It'll keep you calm, even during rush hour on the 101:
That is all. Say hi.

How to Quit Everything
FACT: What you do with your life matters. The world needs you to quit everything that doesn't make sense until you are somewhere that you don't want to leave.
This is a story about why I am retiring from social media. Kinda.
It is also a story about hedge funds, blogging, and being an unreasonable bastard (even if you're a woman, especially if you're a woman). Also, Bobcat Goldthwait makes an appearance.
There's a chance I may be black-bagged for writing this. Here we go!
xo. Jessa.

FACT: Recognizing what you want and getting what you want are basically the same thing. Get on that.
This is a story about making a place for yourself in the world and tiny houses. But first, I need to tell you a story about an LSD trip, Instagram, and making the best of a bad (plumbing) situation.
While this story starts with cat piss and a bunch of broken pipes, it ends in the Silverlake Hills. All's well that ends well, yeah? Cheers!
